Nigella Albion Green Pod
Whether you want to use them as fresh cut flowers or dry them, nigellas (or love-in-a-mist) are fabulously versatile flowers. Nigella Albion Green Pod is a completely white variety, with a green heart and green stamens. The flowers start white and then transform into light green balloon-shaped seed pods. Thanks to the way in which these flowers appear to be dancing, they give every bouquet a whimsical, playful touch. The seeds can be used in cooking, in which capacity they are also known as ‘black cumin’. The annual summer blooming flower can be used equally well as a cut flower or a dried flower. Nigellas make for a fantastic addition to every picking garden, vegetable garden and bouquet of dried flowers!

Annual flower seeds
All our flower seeds produce flowers that are suitable for use as cut flowers. They are also used by professional nurseries and floriculture companies. For flower seeds to be considered high-quality, they need to have outstanding germination capacity and energy and therefore yield a high percentage of flowering plants. All seeds are annuals, which means that they have a lot of growing power: they go through all the stages – from a seed to a flowering plant that, in turn, produces new seeds – in the space of just one season. Most flowers bloom for about three to five months. A rule of thumb in this is that the more flowers you pick, the faster they will grow back! All our seeds are untreated and uncoated, and are also suitable as starting material for growing organic flowers.
Planting instructions:
- Plant in moist soil to which the seeds stick for best germination.
- Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil of approx. 0.5 cm.
- Grow in fertile, well-drained soil.
- Give them a sunny spot and sufficient protection from strong winds. Support if necessary.
- Water regularly.
Sow Nigella early in the spring at a soil temperature of 16°C. For continuous flower production, we recommend sowing the seeds 3-4 times every 2-3 weeks. It is best to sow nigella directly where you want it to flower. You may want to fertilise it with a bit of extra potassium, as this will help it remain upright.
For use in dried flower arrangements, cut the stems as soon as the flowers start to wilt and the attractive seed pods appear. Hang the bunches upside down in a dry, airy place until dry.
